A Economizers & Boilers – Marghera
Transport and loading of economizers and boilers at the Macchi/Sofinter depot
SIMI Srl carried out the transport and loading of four items industrial items, consisting of two economizers and two boilers, on behalf of client Macchi/Sofinter. The project involved internal handling, transfer on self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT), and RORO loading onto a specialized vessel, with dedicated logistics solutions to ensure maximum safety and operational precision.
The first phase involved the internal handling within the Macchi/Sofinter depot, where two economizers weighing approximately 200 tonnes each and two boilers weighing 960 tonnes each were moved. For transfer to the loading point, SIMI used SPMT configured with 12 axles in 4 rows for the economizers, while for the boilers, given their significantly greater mass, an SPMT configuration with 24 axles in 4 rows was used, ensuring optimal load distribution.
Loading operations were performed in RORO (Roll-On/Roll-Off) mode on a RollDock-type vessel, specifically prepared for exceptional cargo. To facilitate access on board and ensure proper alignment with the deck, a dedicated auxiliary ramp was built, alongside the vessel’s standard ramp, allowing safe passage of the SPMT convoys.
The operation was completed with the on-board stowage of the items, positioned according to the established stowage plan, with support from the on-board technical team and under the supervision of operations management.
