The Società Italiana Montaggi Industriali (Italian Industrial Assembly Company) was founded on March 7, 1975, by Aldo Braconi (Monsano, 1933 – Pescara, 2009), a technician who had gained his experience working for a historic industrial transport company based in the Marche region. With that company, he had developed—eventually becoming its manager—a wide market for industrial transport between Abruzzo and central-southern Italy, thanks to a meeting in the early 1960s with an ENI executive who introduced him to the Oil & Gas transport and logistics sector.

Aldo brought into his own company all the expertise and contracts he had accumulated and was joined by the first of the key figures who would shape the growth and very identity of SIMI: Rocco Scurci (1933–2022), from Manoppello.

For many years, from 1975 until the late 1990s—when both retired—Rocco served as Aldo’s right-hand man and SIMI’s operational problem solver. If Aldo was the mind, Rocco was the arm. The other cornerstone of both Aldo Braconi’s life and SIMI—administratively and emotionally, from its founding to the present day—is his wife Amalia Casagrande (Chieti, 1940), a determined accountant who has worked in the company since its inception.

During its first ten years of activity, SIMI remained consistently engaged in logistics and operational support for the Oil & Gas sectors (providing trucks, cranes, and all necessary services for transport, operational logistics, and assistance with the assembly and disassembly of drilling rigs, well extraction facilities, and gas pipelines) as well as in construction, working with major Italian companies involved in developing the country’s infrastructure network.
